It just sounds like to me that somehow the machine is being reset whilst writing the config or something ? I'm not sure I follow your steps. Are you able to clarify like

1. do this

2. do this

etc

If it requires a custom skin or script please provide that too. The .xml is only written on config changes I would have thought.

OK, when using FlashFXP it happens randomly, I'm usually editing an xml file when it happens. (have it open & restart XBMC)

For FTP on the Go, an app for the ipad, I use this to edit the skin when in bed.

1) You load into my profile (non master) & it goes directly to (Programs,Games)
2) After its loaded & the programs view comes up, soft reset.
3) Refresh the FTP application before XBMC loads, (I would say 30% of the time it will corrupt the xml)
4) You will know its happened when the FTP app timeout & you can't connect again until you softreset.
5) the Filezilla Server.xml is now 0kbs & XBMC log says its corrupt or missing.

Im not sure why its doing it, the log (debug mode on) says nothing about it corrupting, or even writing to it.

To note, if you load into Home, Programs, Music or Videos XBMC doesn't hang (it doesn't hang as in freeze it just becomes unresponsive) if you load into Programs,Games or Programs,Emulators it will on the DialogProgress dialogue.

Just to rule out something on the filesystem level, please can you do an xbmc install on another partition and still reproduce it everytime ? The other things I can do in case I can't reproduce it is to put some more debugging in for you.

If I'm the only one having this issue, we can just leave it at that, just set the it to low priority or remove it.

I fixed the issue by using python. (I know its not ideal)

Also the issue is, its not 100% consistent it seems to be random when it happens, it may not happen again for another few days or another 100 edit of an xml file.
also you will never know if your using a normal skin (that defaults to home) since it never becomes unresponsive. (the backup ftp server kicks in so no one would be the wizer)

well, im still willing to look into it to a degree and still worth checking installing to another partition to rule out some weird filesystem issue. However it is the first I have heard of this issue yeh.
