is it possible to wrap xbmc4xbox python functions, so smb:// paths work like in windows branch?

Possible: yes. But I recall it's not that easy/straightforward to do it. One needs a dev with enough knowledge about Windows/VC++ to make this work (read: not me). Maybe Exobuzz?
